This may be a bit of a controversial question, but it is just bizarre to me how Michael Jackson went from being a weirdo-butt-of-every-joke to a Hero simply by dying. What does that say about our culture and how we pick out our heroes?

Yes, people do change their attitude when someone passes on... it is interesting. Maybe there is some good in that... but maybe people should be more sympathetic before hand too.
In the case of Michael Jackson, I didn't have much of an opinion before or after. I think he was a talented man with a sad history and was generally rather strange. He wasn't a hero to me before or after his death. I don't think my attitude about him has changed at all. I still think he was talented but odd.
